With her it was a road trip
We traveled on one road,
No matter how many humps, blind curves and detour
We kept on going;
She was the driver and I had the map.
We traveled to many places,
Fought over a flat tire and car wash,
Cried on the chipped car paint,
And took alternate turns in filling up the gas tank
But then she decided to pull over on a stop sign
And promised to be there on the next stop
I did the same and sped away
I got stuck in traffic
Too focused on driving and overtaking
Took too much attention to the street signs
Never bothered to see the mishap ahead
I pulled over on a service bay
And found her there standing
Then she said that she can’t ride with me no more
She has to get her own car
She said I was going too fast
Feared of being left behind;
She wants to take another road;
A road she wants to take alone
Tried to plead to take the same route with me
But my pleading fell on deaf ears
She took a bus and left me
Standing there dumbfounded and confused
Suddenly the car seems empty
It felt like I was blindsided
Felt like I had a flat tire and sideswiped by a 10-ton truck
The destination is there no more
Got in the car alone and sped away.
Took an exit not on the map
Not minding the street signs and traffic lights
Traveling alone on an empty street
Then I found a traveler in white
HIS face is divine and holy
HE asked if I can give HIM a lift
I nodded and off we went
HE said “son where are you going”
I muttered I don’t know.
HE said then I’ll go wherever you go
We talked about life; mine and HIS
We talked like Father and son
We traveled on one road,
No matter how many humps, blind curves and detour

I sensed HE was more interested in my life than HIS
Suddenly everything felt right
Then HE asked "can I take the wheel?"
"I sensed that you are tired" he added
I hastily said "why not?"
"Where to sir?" I asked
"To the place I planned for you"
"Long before you were born"
"A place where you’ll find peace and happiness"
But it will be a road less traveled"
I said that’s okay.
I’ve been to all kinds of roads
"But this will be different" HE muttered
"This road is rough at first but the destination will be worth it"
"Who knows?"HE muttered
"We’ll find someone along the road"
"Someone who’ll ride with you"
"Someone with the same journey as you"
Then off we went…..
